first, it was oversized, round mirrors above vanities – everywhere! then this trend evolved into the use of those rounded mirrors with the wayyy protruding rims. now, we’ve moved onto something so very, very exciting: ledged mirrors.
in many cases, these mirrors have boxy 3-d wrought-iron frames, or just a simple protruding shelf at the bottom for your basic toiletries (called washroom mirrors on antique and vintage-inspired models). they’re tending to have more of an industrial edge to them, but also have some mcm and contemporary elements as well.
we love these so much for so many reasons. first, it’s an old style being revamped in a new and chic way. this isn’t a style we’ve really seen around, yet it’s still a design evolution. secondly, it creates more vanity space, which you can never have too much of, especially in a small space.
lastly, we’re a little sick of medicine cabinets – installation is a pain, and many homeowners or renters don’t have the capacity to install them. the little ledges on these mirrors provide just enough space for all your necessities, and as a bonus, make the perfect spot to display a plant or two. it’s the best of all worlds.
target, cb2, magnolia, west elm and pottery barn are some of the big-name brands that have gotten on board with the ledged mirror trend so far and are offering the mirrors in their current catalogs. we anticipate all other home decor brands catching on soon.
the rustic and industrial look of these mirrors has us gushing, and we’re excited to see their development within the next few months. we want to hear your thoughts on the trend! comment below and let us know.
