friday finds: the furniture and decor we’re obsessing over right now

we’ve spent the entirety of april and part of march quarantined at home, all the while virtually window shopping for decor we wish we could get our hands on. with the emergence of a new month, we wanted to showcase a few of the things we’re coveting right now. maybe it’s the moon, maybe we’re just quarantine crazy, maybe all of the above, but we’re head over heels mad for all of these.

shell cushions velvet pillows

1. why shello! these shell pillows by tamar mogendorff are popping up all over our instagram feed. we don’t think we need to say why (cutest shell shape + velvet accent? sign us UP). the velvet cushion is available in earthy and gem tones that give any space a perfect sheen while not being too “maximalist.” pair it with more rich-toned velvet for an eclectic vintage look or make it a little more boho it up by surrounding it with grounded neutrals and natural materials. whatever you choose, we don’t think you can go wrong.

you can find a more affordable, equally adorable shell pillow here at the amazing moimili shop, an etsy store that sells the sweetest decor you could dream of.

2. nakashima knocka-offas. anyone who’s ever browsed pinterest for any sort of mid-century or modern farmhouse inspiration has undoubtedly been exposed to george nakashima’s work, knowingly or not. you might not be familiar with him by name, but he’s the designer responsible for those amazing live-edge slab benches with spindle backs, amongst many other live-edge designs. he’s an extremely prolific figure in the wood-working world as well.

anyways, you can get an original nakashima on first dibs for a cool “price available upon request” (hint: it’s over $50k), or you can get a ‘nakashima style’ bench, made to your specifications from a third party artisan, like this one or this one. or this one, or this one. we’re always looking for ways to integrate live-edge wood into our space, and nakashima’s works seem to be popping up more and more in 2020. regardless, we are totally on board with wherever george is taking us.

3. reeded & fogged glass has been on top of our glass and cabinetry obsessions for a while, hence why the haze vitrine by ferm living is the one large furniture piece I’m considering making room for in my already over-cramped apartment. let it be said: to squeeeeeze another piece of freestanding furniture into that place (4th floor downtown boston walkup) is no small feat, so it’s truly a testament to the love I have for this thing. the glass back and sides makes the piece seem much smaller than it actually is by adding depth and dimension, so unlike standard storage pieces with opaque backs, your space will feel larger. at least, that’s what I’m telling myself and the laws of design dictate it’ll do. the price is also justifiable for a piece by ferm.

best of all, since it’s glass, it’ll happily house your plants while shut. a peek of green through the (aptly named) hazed glass is just what any space needs. with all this talk of a virus spreading like a, while, virus, we can use all of the good plant juju we can get. bring on the greenery!

4. this little frama stool. also this lil wood stool. and this lil wood stool. we’re rolling all our herman miller cosms out the door and replacing them with ALL THE LIL WOOD STOOLS. replacing our dining chairs with LIL WOOD STOOLS. plant stands be gone! make way for LIL WOOD STOOLS.

okay, that many lil wood stools might be too many lil wood stools (if ever possible), but we are seriously needing at least one petite rustic wood stool in our life. these little guys are small enough to fit practically anywhere and are so multi-purpose that they can be used for virtually any task; sitting, plant-holding, step-stooling, next-to-tub-decor. the possibilities are endless.

5. attention all you plant over-carers! have you ever killed a plant due to over watering? have you ever literally, loved a plant to death? do you enjoy watching your plants wake up while you watch over them with a cup of coffee? well then, we’re in the same boat. I would like to introduce you to my new best friend: the oxalis!

this is one of the coolest plants i’ve ever come across. plant aficionados and the scientifically inclined look away because i’m about to try to get a little biological. the oxalis undergoes what’s called the nyctinasty phenomenon, which is a circadian rhythm happening that makes it essentially shut itself at night and re-open in the morning. if you’re someone who needs to constantly water and feed and prune and touch in order to see some change in your plants, this guy is perfect for you. he’ll exhibit change everyday which is extremely satisfying.

also a plus? they’re a beautifully saturated hue of purple which infuses a gorgeous punch of color into any space.

what has your eye right now? is there anything that’s sitting in your shopping cart that’s waiting to be purchased? let us know in the comments!
